Hike Swami Malai - Yelagiri

Overview

Yelagiri is one of the best places to hike in Tamil Nadu. I'll recommend you to take a road trip if  you are around a 350 Km radius. Drive to this destination is fabulous.

About the Trail
Elevation soaring to 4,338 ft from its base, Its an easy climb of about an hour. Uphill for 4km into the deep green forest can be fun. The summit is bald. so you get a great view. Suggest you to take this before the sun rise for 2 reasons. a) This will save you from the heat when you return and b) you will get to see the clouds kissing the green mountain in the mornings, that's a bliss.

The trail is well build that starts from a field, it turns muddy later followed by rocky steps. There is a small temple at the summit, may be they build it because its called Swamimalai (God's Hill).
Its open all around the year.
Caution
Don't forget your water bottle. you get nothing in the summit.
Other hikes to consider
Smaller peaks like Javadi Hills, Palamathi Hills and others are an easier climb.

How to get there

You should be able to reach the village called Mangalam that is 3 miles away from the Yelagiri Lake .  The trail-head begins with a small temple of Lord Muruga.
